Fax on printer not working

    After lightening struck our outside phone line and wiped out our phones, the fax on my Canon MX340 is not working. It tries calling but doesn't make the connection, and it does not receive. Any idea how this can be fixed or is it permanently damaged?

    After a lightning strike this is pretty much permanent damage. Repair woulkely cost as much or more than replacing the printer. Even if there is warranty left on the printer, damage from lightning stirkes and such is not covered by warranty. Although if you have home owners insurance, that may cover the replacement.

    If your ordinary telephones still work, and your internet access still works, I would say the fax machine is damaged.

    If the lightning strike took out all the phones, why is it surprising that it took out the fax? They were all connected to the same wiring.

    That Canon looks to be a cheap all-in-one. You can pick those up for less than $100. It definitely can't be repaired for what it would cost to replace.
