Has anyone messed around with Fedora Linux? because im interetest but im still not sure if i want to set up another PC to tool around with it, just let me know if its worth it, and some of the features, becaues surprisinly im not really finding much info on the net.

i have use Rdhat since v5.2 and tried Fedora just last week...i notice little difference from RH9...but i abandon for Slackware....i dont like direction RedHat support taking...

I use core 1 which is very good,you can install anything you could ever need with yum,apt-get and synaptic plus red carpet.I like it because I'm lazy and everything works,sound printer ect.Seems like every dist.is better for different hardware,Suse would give me fits over my internet connection,I would get it configured and working but when I rebooted I would have to do it all over,mandrake 10 woukd not install,and slack was an adventure as it did not like me at all,david

i can understand your frustration with Mandrake....i never was able to establish a network connection...as for Slackware...my only problem was lilo....i was trying to lilo and did not realize that i had save a different file to lilo.conf and could not boot...but that was my fault...i still have problems with installing X on debian...i really like debian but video problems with X have me at standstill.....i like slackware and it seems to run well....everyday is a new learning experience to build on...

I don't duel boot anymore,I was always on the linux side anyway,so what I want to do<when I get some extra cash> is set-up a home network with another computer that I can play around with,I will put slack on it,I know how to install it,can be a little tricky,but that is how I learn,just can't play around too much now,I like to listen to music and check out the forums ect,david

Its mainly the same as any other redhat distro. If you are really new to linux, it could be a good thing to try, as most books you will find are based on RedHat. As you get more advanced though, you might want to move away from red hat, to somthing that is more .... I think stable is the word. Slackware, Gentoo, and Debian are intermidiate to advanced linuxes (How do you pluralize linux?), very powerful and fun to use. If you really are Brand Spanking New(TM) to linux, then try Knoppix, or Mepis, or Morphix (One of the LiveCDs). They will be slower than a real linux, but it will give you a feel for it, without worring about HD damage.

slightly off-topic:
If you download Mandrake 10 and cant get it to install (or boot) from CD #1, it's easy to get around: boot from CD #2 and follow the prompts until it asks for CD #1.
errata :
Error scenario: Unable to boot from CD1.
Why: Unknown; this only seems to happen with some CD-ROM drives
Solution: Boot from CD2 instead.
