Without using any Nero or file burning software, can Windows XP itself supports simple file copying to disc. Not that I know of, but i have a user who can do these.

    1. select a file, right click and press SEND TO the burner
    2. simply copy and paste the file to the burner
    3. reopen a file on a disc, edit it, and then can save it back onto the disc.

Strange, anyone welcome to comment. Thanks.

    XP has built-in burning software.

I wonder this built-in is supported by our company or not. I checked with 2nd level, they says it is a hit or miss case, some of our installation can do such a thing but some not. As you said, if it is built-in , then every copy of XP should support this, am I right?

Does the computer actually have a CD burner installed? Many professional / office computers come with CD-ROM drives only for security reasons.

you reported the post instead of replying
    and stated
XP does not have inbuilt DVD burning ability only CD
if a DVD re-writer drive is detected then there is no guarantee that the inbuilt CD writing software will work & it most probably won't.
