Hello, I am having problems with d3dx11_42.dll being missing from my computer. I am trying to play the game ArcheAge. At first, it was the file d3dx9_42.dll being missing. I fixed that, the game worked, and then I was messing around with graphics settings in the game to try and make it run better, switched to dx11, and now the game wont load again. I have tried downloading the file from dll-files.com, directx end user run time web installer, and the directx 11 downloads off of microsoft.com. The web installer has an internal error when I try installing, and the dx11 is only a powerpoint when I download it. I have tried a few others too but nothing seems to be working. I have also reinstalled the game a few times with no luck. Any ideas? Thanks!

Welcome to TSG! (y)

Have you tried resetting the config? should be a system.cfg file or .ini file.
Have a look here. http://archeagesource.com/topic/1172-how-to-reset-game-settings/

Also, if the web installer and MS download is having issue look around the page, might be an offline installer for admins and what not. might be able to download an .exe instead of the browser installers.
Make sure your video card is DX11 compatible though. Otherwise stick with DX 9 or 10.

Hi there,

This game won't work with 10, but only 9.0c or 11 (see hyperlink).

If the GPU is not the issue I think what is happening here is a direct X11 dll is missing. Basically the game needs this file to run but it can't find it on your system. This game has direct X11 support, so it makes sense. I recommend looking at the following link and making sure you have the latest direct X for your OS version (12 is out now for Win8, but should have backwards compatibility... I suspect you may be running Vista or Win7 though). Let me know what happens.

According to wikipedia 9.0c should work if your GPU isn't compatible with 11 so you could try that too. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_games_with_DirectX_11_support

If you are fairly confident that you have Direct X11 (if you run similar games fine, etc), or if you are on Win8, it could just be that just this dll is missing. If so try this: http://pcsupport.about.com/od/fixtheproblem/ht/restoredx9dll.htm

Regards,
John

Try the dx web installer on another machine then copy the dxd3dx11_42.dll and dxd3dx11_43.dll to the windows\system32 folder on the target machine.
