Hello. Today I noticed that my computer is suddenly deleting files totally from my machine rather than sending them to the recycle bin. I've not changed any settings. It just started doing it!! How can I fix this?

Thanks!

Also, I wanted to add that my property settings for Recycle Bin are correct. It's like it's supposed to be. My file are supposed to go there, and it's supposed to confirm deletion. When deleting a file, it confirms the deletion, but it TOTALLY removes it rather than put it in the recycle bin. Thanks!

Hi Jason,

Have you checked the properties of your recycle bin?
Is "Do not move files to the Recycle Bin" checked?

Well, I fixed it. I can't explain what happened for sure. But a trusty reboot seemed to do the trick. Things were in my recycle bin, they just weren't visable. I rebooted and there they were.
Man, I'm good... =)

Well, I followed your link and read about it. My removable disc box was UNchecked. However, now that you mention it, when I had this problem, my HD icon was like a "notepade" type icon. An icon w/ a C on it and what looked like some sort of "notepad." But it wasn't this way when I rebooted.

Also, I've noticed that it looks like this when I insert certain CD's in the Rom drive. I didn't really ever know what my HD's icon would change when doing this.

Any more advice?

Thanks!

Look for a file named autorun.inf. If it is in the Hard Drive's Driectory, it can have that effect>>Changing the Icon.

If you find it, delete or rename it.

Mosaic1, it seems to be associate w/ three programs I've installed on my system. I'll rename it. But *I* never did this. Does it mean that certain disc's I install will readd the file again later though?

You didn't do it. An Autorun.inf file is a file which runs the CD automatically. Sometimes they get copied to the hard drive and cause problems.

You can easily delete them. Just be sure it really is an autorun.inf Don't delete from windows\inf,
Only if the autorun.inf file is not in a folder, but in the root itself.

Mosaic,
Well, thank god i just renamed them then! I changed them back because none of the three I found were in the root. They were in Program File folders.

Thanks!
