to save myself down loading all my game files agian i'm transfering them from my xp machine to the vista. but some will open and some wont.

eg: COD2 files transfered and ran with out prob, but guild wars wouldnt run at all. is there a general rule of thumb that i can use to get around this??

Vista can be weird that way. Did you try openning them with "Run As Administrator"? If the games are old, their age could be the problem, although I have a couple of old games that installed fine on Vista. Try burning the exe files of your games to disc and installing them that way. Doesn't always work, but it's worth a try.

Are you copying the game's data files, or the entire game itself? The former should work if the manufacturer allows it. The latter probably won't work at all, since it's not "installed" on the new machine.

Also some games may need the registry entries they were configured with when installed (for example, Oblivion).
