I have a laptop running Vista home premium and a desktop PC with Win ME. I can "see" the laptop from the desktop but cannot connect to it. The other way round is fine, from the laptop I can see the folders and files on the desktop PC, open them etc. I am guessing that the issue is one of share settings? This is set to "everyone" with full access however.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. I feel I am just missing something minor but fundamental!

Thanks for this - I'll work through and report back. The problem with going to Vista from ME is finding your way round the damned thing!

Yes it is quite a bit different as far as the networking goes. One reason I put up some instructions with all those screenshots.
