File sharing with Office 365

I'm helping out a small business. They currently have a file server, which is getting a bit old.

They also have Office 365 subscriptions. Can they use their Ondedrive subscriptions as an alternative to the file server? I would like to avoid that the files on the server are duplicated on each and every PC.

Could they use a sort of shared folder on the OneDrive?
Or use sharepoint ?
What's the difference between the two methods.
