A friend sent me three executable files (.exe) to provide patches to one of my CAD programs as part of a beta test of software he's developing. The problem is that when I try to copy these from the CD/DVD over to the program folder to run them, they appear in the directory listing (Windows Explorer) for a few seconds then disappear. The files on the CD are "read only" but not "hidden." I can't change the attributes on the CD and then I can't get to the file once on my hard drive. I'm using 64bit Windows 7 Professional on a brand new Dell Mobile Precision laptop. My buddy is sending me another CD with the patches cleaned of the read only attribute. I don't know why that would be the cause of this problem but I'm trying to figure out why this happened in the first place and if there's something I can do if it happens with the next batch of stuff he sends.

    TIA

Have you checked your antivirus program's quarrentine section ? Maybe the antivrius program caught something.

That was one of the things my buddy told me to try. I also shut my (SpySweeper) protection off and tried with no difference.
