    All,

I'm new to this forum. I have a strange problem.

When I boot my computer (Win2k), with my Netgear router switched off (i.e. no broadband access), the computer does not let me access the file system - when I try to access explorer it just hangs! However if I keep my router on before booting up, the computer is as normal and I can access the file system.

I investigated further, by booting with the router switched off and turning on the router after boot, again the computer just hangs when I try to access the file system - which has confused me even more!

One thing I noticed is that when I do start -> shutdown->Restart just before logging out, the computer opens up the explorer window, which means there is a process which is blocking access to the file system when I boot the computer with my router switched off, but when the computer logs out it kills this process! I can't seem to locate what this process is.

Any help would be appreciated. I have included a HJT log:

    Welcome to TSG!

That looks like it is only a partial log.

    Please do this:

Click on the link below and it will download CWShredder. Close all browser windows. UnZip it and click on the cwshredder.exe and let it do it's thing.

    http://www.spychecker.com/download/download_cwshredder.html

When it is finished restart your computer.

Come back here and post another HT log and we'll get rid of what's left. Make sure you copy and paste the entire log.

I've just tested again, unfortunatly the computer still hangs when trying to access the filesystem when booting with my router switched off

Could it have something to do with SP4? I recently upgraded to SP4 because of the MSBlast security security vulnerablity.

My guess is that it's this critter
    C:\Program Files\Intel\AdapterSwitching\AdapterSwitchService.exe
(particularly in conjunction with the netgear wlan software and usb)
It's been known to give some VPN problems etc.
What is your setup? Is this a notebook and is wireless involved?
    How many adapters?

    Hi,

I've manged to rectify the problem.

I have currently running a Hauppage DVB TV box, which I hadn't used for a while. The other day, Blade was showing on national Uk tv so I decided to tune in :D However to my surprise, there was a conflict reported when the accessing the DVB (this could have been because of the recent SP4 update)

I re-installed Hauppage drivers and now I can access my filesystem when booting with my router switched off! I'm still confused on how this could have stopped filesystem access:confused: But the problem is fixed :D

I'll post the HJT log once I get back from work.

    Regards
