well, that is not a legitimate copy of windows, so we cannot assist further. What you need to do is install a legitimate version of windows.

Chances are pretty high that a legitimate install will cure these issues, to be honest.

my recommendation is whomever you got the copy from. If it was a computer shop, give them a ring and let them know.

Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit in your computer is an OEM SLP copy that came installed and activated in another factory-brand computer.
Just because it says it's genuine in your computer doesn't mean it is.
That may very well be why you're having a fingerprint scanner issue.

dunno what that is; I've escalated this to an admin, but again, that is not a legit install. We'll see what they see when they get in.

thanks,

Indeed. The OS is not genuine. The key in use is the generic one that comes with all Dells sold with Windows 7 Ultimate preinstalled. You need to reinstall Windows. If you don't want to buy another license then you can reinstall Windows 7 Pro using the original installation media and the key from the COA sticker on the computer to activate. Otherwise, you need to purchase a new retail license that is valid and reinstall Windows.

No idea but it's possible. Since we don't support piracy we cannot assist any further with this issue unless you reinstall Windows with a valid license and continue to have problems afterwards.

Thanks, K. (y)

I don't know if that non-genuine operating system is at the root of the fingerprint scanner issue.
There may be something else going on that we're not aware of.
