i've got a satellite connection and i get worried sometimes that some hacker could get in and do some mischief. does anybody have a recommendation for controlling access via fire wall.

i've been using norton av but i'm a little disappointed at the moment - i think i got one of the yaha worms and norton didn't intercept it or recognize it. (i guess that's what makes yaha especially troublesome). i heard about panda software tonight - maybe i'll try it. we had mcaffey for a while and it worked but there were too many popups advertising updates were available for download. is it possible to silence it or keep it in the background?

Ontrack System suite, has a good antivirus program, and a decent firewall, plus it has a slew of other tools and utilities at a decent price.
The only thing I wouldn't use/install that it comes with is the CrashProof. Since nothing is crashproof, and this type of crash protection junk is known to cause crashes :D

Are your currently using a firewall or asking for a referral? i would recommend zone-alarm. There are many others that will work well too.

Hi,

Start here :

As mentioned ZA is pooular. Others that are quite widespread Sygate (which I use), and Kerio. Heard some negative reports about the effectiveness of Black Ice Defender. And from my own experience if you're online with AOL avoid ZA - they don't go well together.
