Hi everyone. I have Firefox 2.0 and it absolutely refuses to load. The process loads but the window does not. I have given it like 5 minutes to load and that is with a 2.53 ghz Intel Pentium 4 processor. It should not be taking nowhere near this long to load. It was previously infested with Spyware but I just updated my Spybot Search and Destroy definitions for the first time in over a month (because I was relying on what I thought was a better anti-spyware program) and the new definitions detected the spyware and removed it. However, Firefox has not been able to load for at least a week or more. I just noticed it last week but I had not used Firefox in quite some time either. I'd really like to be able to use Firefox again because it is much faster than Internet Explorer. Could you all please help me fix this? I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling Firefox and going into Firefox Safe Mode to reset all the settings but to no avail. Also, I am getting no errors, just nothing. Help!

Oh, a few more details that might be helpful. Firefox will load if you try to load it in Firefox Safe Mode. Also, I have to manually end the process using Task Manager in order to get rid of the process because there is obviously no close button for me to click. Also, it can't be any of my add ons causing the problem because I tried disabling all of my add ons and then restarting Firefox using Firefox Safe Mode. Oh and my Firewall (ZoneAlarm free - the latest version) which I just recently installed is not even registering an attempt by Firefox to connect to the Internet.

Hmmm...this computer have been infected with spyware before and you used Spybot SD to clear the malware u say?I would suggest you post a hijackthis log either here or at the malware removal section and let an expert look at the log as SD's detection and removal capabilities are SERIOUSLY lacking when compared to others.

Well, I also use Webroot Spysweeper which is supposed to be one of the best anti-spyware programs there is. It didn't detect but one program and that program was not associated with Firefox. Anyway, here's my Hijack This log:

Holly - -: Click on the small triangle with the red outline in the far upper right by the post number. That will allow you to ask a Moderator to move your Thread to the proper Forum- Malware Removal & HJT Logs.

Be patient there, because only a limited number of folks are qualified to handle posts at that Forum. They have a gold or blue "shield" after their name/moniker.

Ok. I tried going to Add/Remove Programs to remove WeatherBug but WeatherBug was not listed under Add/Remove Programs so I went under my start menu and found an uninstallation program for Weatherbug under its submenu. I ran it and got an error at the end saying that "Unwise.exe" could not be found. Unfortunately, WeatherBug is still installed on my computer because of this. So, what next???

Also, when and for how long do I disabled my anti-spyware programs???

Ok, I was able to manually uninstall WeatherBug and I also temporarily disabled my anti-spyware programs (while trying to load Firefox... that was kind of a duh moment for me not realizing that is what you were talking about to begin with) and Firefox loaded just fine! Now then, how do we get Firefox to load without disabling my anti-spyware programs?

The Anti-Spyware SHOULDN'T be causing a problem. Note the emphasis on shouldn't. :D
Re-enable it and if the problem comes back, take a look HERE for diagnostic steps.
Particularly the section "Other Solutions".
You may have to do a clean re-install as a last resort.

Run HJT again and put a check in the following:

O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [Weather] "C:\Program Files\AWS\WeatherBug\Weather.exe" 1

Close all applications and browser windows before you click "fix checked".

Delete this folder:
C:\Program Files\AWS

I only wanted you to disable anti-spyware programs it while you were attempting the install FF. My thought was one of them was blocking it.

Ok, thanks for all the help guys but I am going to take my PC up to a friend who is an expert at computers and he's going to fix it for me. I'm sorry but its just taking too much time to do this via the forums and the problems are only getting worse. This is my last resort and a format and reinstall for my PC is simply not an option.

Hi Holly,
The clean reinstall I mentioned was only of Firefox, not the PC.
If you're having other problems in addition to FF not loading properly, Having somebody do "hands on" is probably a good idea.
Hope it works out for you.

Oh ok. Sorry for the miscommunication. Anyway, yes, I am having other problems. Like I get that blue screen of death sometimes, and the PC has been slower than normal lately. Not to mention the "No Disk" error I was getting yesterday (which appears to be solved now). So yeah, having somebody do a "hands on" fix is definitely a good idea in my opinion. Thanks for the help you all offered. I'm sorry you couldn't help me more.
