    I am getting Firefox pop-ups for several malicious tools including WinAntivirus. I am running Windows XP SP2, Firefox 2.0.0.4, Java 1.6.01.
    Please help.

    Hey meshok

    RogueRemover

    Please download rr-free-setup.exe (by RubbeR DuckY). Save the file to your desktop.

    Double-click rr-free-setup.exe. RogueRemover will now be installed - OK the installation prompts. Once it has successfully installed click Check for updates. Download & install any updates.

    Click Scan. RogueRemover will now scan your computer for any rogue programs. Once it has finished click Remove Selected if it finds any. Please allow RogueRemover to submit the statistical data.

    ==========

    Hijackthis Log

    Please download HijackThis.exe (by Merijn). Save the file to your desktop. This is a very important step! This ensures Hijackthis stores backups should anything go wrong.

    Double-click HijackThis.exe. Select Do a system scan and save a logfile.

    Allow Hijackthis to scan your computer. When notepad opens up with your logfile, copy the contents back into your thread.

    ==========

    Jamie :)

    Hey meshok

    Update Java

    Your version of Java is now outdated. Java vulnerabilites are commonly exploited by malware so I strongly recommend you update it.

    Please download Java Runtime Environment .

    Install the update and restart your computer. Then remove any older versions from Add or Remove Programs in the Control Panel.

    What program makes you think you have WinAntiVirus? Please could you post a fresh Hijackthis log.

    Hi Jamie,

    I am running autoupdate on Java and the latest version (JRE 6 Update 1) was downloaded on 6/23/07. No other JREs are installed.
    I don't think I have WinAntiVirus. I just periodically get Firefox pop-ups asking me to install WinAntiVirus, Ameana, and DiskCleaner (or something similar). Firefox shows a tab "Firefox error" (or something like this). Usually it happens no more often than once every couple of days and doesn't seem to be connected to the sites I visit.

    IE7 never shows this pop-up so I made it a default browser for now.

    Sorry, it was DriveCleaner, not DiskCleaner.

    Please grab the latest version of Java > JRE 6 Update 2.

    The auto-updater doesnt work. Then post a fresh Hijackthis log.
