should i run a system restore to a time before the updates took place
or can something else be done?

See if you have any good backups.
    Click Bookmarks>Organize Bookmarks>Import and Backup>Restore.

For the future, consider using Xmarks for online backup. Also good to sync multi computers! I use this to sync the entire studio, including laptops used on location.

You're running a computer repair/support shop, and you don't have backups of your data? And don't know how System Restore works?

I always export my bookmarks to my other browsers, IE and Aol just in case FF acts up.
