Firefox won't open links in new tab

I've just downloaded FF 3.5 onto a friend's computer but FF refuses to open anything in a new tab though I've checked/unchecked all the relevant boxes. It will only open up in the current tab which is the home page.

I've installed Tab Mix Plus but it hasn't solved the problem. I've also posted a thread on the FF forum but so far nobody has helped.
Can anyone here help? Should I just download FF again or will that cause further difficulties?

Hi starnelka,
Type about:config in address bar then press "I'll be careful, I promise!". Here type browser.link.open_newwindow and make sure that:
- browser.link.open_newwindow Type is : integer and value: 3
- browser.link.open_newwindow.restrictionType is: integer and value: 2
After that also check if that:
- browser.tabs.opentabfor.middleclick Type is: boolean and value: True
- middlemouse.openNewWindow Type is: boolean and Value: true.
Also it's recommended to use latest version of firefox which is Firefox 3.6.

Ooh,not sure I can follow those instructions, 007, since I barely understand them. Isn't there an easier way?

Mine works fine without doing any of those things and I just can't understand why my friend is having such trouble. I've told him about middle and right clicks but pc wise he's not that literate and I know won't remember.
