Acer Travelmate 3010, intel centrino 1.66Ghz, windows XP SP3, external firewire DVD multirecorder.
I recently found that my external DVD drive was not being recognised by the system. After a little searching I found that the Texas Instruments firewire controller was disabled and using device manager re-enabled it and it worked fine.
The only problem is that every time I reboot the pc the firewire controller disables itself again and I have to do the same thing to make it work. Unplugging the DVD drive and replugging while the controller is enabled works fine. I have no other firewire devices and no USB devices attached, and it is connected to a wireless network.
I think I hear the windows "device disconnect" noise on boot up after windows has started but before it is fully up, which suggests to me that windows is disabling it.
I have searched the forums but can't find anyone with a similar problem. Can anyone help.
Thanks
