I have been having some problems with my multimedia audio controller driver.

It has been inactive and has a exclamation mark over it on the computer management window, however I can update it but it's missing the rtkvac.sys file from it's realtek ac97 driver that it requires, and if I try and install the driver using some downloadable sources it crashes the PC with a blue screen mid installation.

Another driver called the Creative AudioPCI (ES1370), SB PCI 64/128 (WDM) is also having an error in which it cannot boot correctly.

This PC doesn't have any sound at all, please help me on how I can fix this.

The PC is a DELL OTIPLEX GX280 Windows XP SP3, 32 bit, with 4GIG ram and a AMD Radeon HD 3450, as a display adapter.

Thank you.

Dell OptiPlex GX280 Desktop PC (support site)

Click "Drivers & Downloads", then select Windows XP for the operating system.
The list of drivers will appear.

That desktop has an Analog Devices ADI 198x (also known as SoundMAX) integrated audio device.
THIS is the listed driver for it.

Why are you trying to use Realtek or Creative Labs audio drivers?

Because when I try to update the driver it asks me for the ac97 Realtek disk.

What's the exact 7-character "service tag" number on that Dell?

Go into the Device Manager, then expand the Sound Video And Game Controllers heading.
What's the exact description of the audio device listed there?

The audio driver isn't installed, which is why there is no sound.
I provided the webpage link for the audio driver in post #2.
If you don't know how to install it, ask someone who does to help you.
