I have inherited a document set up with paragraph numbering:

    1.3.6 Blah blah blah blah
    1.3.7 Blah-blah, blah-blah-blah
    1.3.8 Bla-a-a-ah
    1.3.9 Yakity-yak

If I were to delete section 1.3.7, everything below would renumber itself:

    1.3.6 Blah blah blah blah
    1.3.7 Bla-a-a-ah
    1.3.8 Yakity-yak

Is there any way to "fix" the numbering system in place so that I could delete with the following outcome (ie, linking a paragraph to its number permanently)?

    1.3.6 Blah blah blah blah
    1.3.8 Bla-a-a-ah
    1.3.9 Yakity-yak

    Thank you very much!

    Hi tsguser,

I can't think of a way of doing this other than not refreshing the paragraph nos once you have deleted one, and this would be difficult as they are updated when you print.

However, I can't see why you don't want the nos updated. Is it because you have hard-coded text references to the paragraph nos?
If so then replace them with Cross References (Insert / Reference / Cross Reference) which will update as nos change or you move paras.
