I just got a pop-up about new Flash version (for FF in my Win7).
When I check the page I see that I have 296 and the new version being offered is 287. How can I have a newer version than the one being offered?

It appears that 296 is a Beta version and I was surprised to find that I have it too, despite the fact that I recently installed 287 myself (I get nervous about allowing automatic updates!).

I suppose it's possible that I didn't 'disallow' auto updates as I usually do or that my choice has been ignored by Adobe. In any event, it seems that the recently released version only fixed two of the three latest exploits known to be in use so perhaps 296 is an attempt to deal with the third one?

PS. See this story from the Internet Storm Centre;.https://isc.sans.edu which appears to confirm my theory.

16.0.0.296 is the most current version for Adobe Flash Player activeX and plugin.

I installed it earlier today in both of my Windows 7 computers for Internet Explorer and Firefox.

See the info at Adobe Security Bulletin regarding this update. It was released January 22nd to cover a vulnerability in 16.0.0.287. Working great for me. :) (I use the automatic download option.)

A little confusing though, as the latest version, according to these two pages is 16.0.0.287:

The Alternative Flash Player Auto-Updater calls it Beta:

I did not receive the update through the Alternative Flash Player Auto-Updater. I had Flash auto-updated from the Control Panel manager. I also thought that was disabled...

Well I never ever install Beta versions so can only assume that my preference not to use auto updating was ignored this time.

I expect there will be another update soon enough and will await with interest to see if it is installed without my knowledge!

    I don't believe it's Beta. It's only a security update.

In the link posted by TulsaRose Adobe states:
So this leads me to believe that it may not be delivered to all users at the same time but starting January 24th, i.e. a roll out and only to those using auto updates.
So it's not yet available but is coming and that would explain why when you visit the site you will only see that .287 version. :)

    I use noscript https://noscript.net/
and only allow certain things on sites I trust.
If an unknown site has a lot of things showing that need unblocking, I cautiously allow one or two things at a time. If that doesn't work, I leave the site.

Instead of blocking all scripts, which can render websites useless, Flashblock can block Flash content only. You won't have to constantly allow or disallow stuff.

Thanks very much! I just joined the forum to find out why, when I had 296, I kept getting notices to update...I thought I did! I just downloaded 305 and voila! No more update notices!!
