my computer is not recognizing my disk drive- the light does not come on/ it does not make any sounds-

My computer gives me an error message that directs me to enter the disk and push enter (even though the disk is in)

I went into the control panel and it says the drive is there and working properly.

    any ideas? Thanks!!!!

As you say there's no light/sound, only two possibilities: it's fried, or it has a loose power connection. Open the case and check if a small white four-cable connector is in place, next to the gray ribbon cable.
