I have a problem where the Search function is the default function of all folders rather than Open, so a Search window opens up when I double click on a folder and I have to right click on the folder and click Open in order to open the folder.

    Start > run > type regsvr32 /i shell32.dll and click ok.

Reboot, if that doesn't help go to http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm and download #18 Search opens when double clicking a folder.

To use the Regedits: Save the REG File to your hard disk. Double click it and answer yes to the import prompt. REG files can be viewed in Notepad by right clicking on the file and selecting Edit.
