    Hi all,

I was wondering if you may be able to help, I'm a bit scuppered by this!

I can install operating systems but I'm faced with the following catch-22 situation:

    1. Toshiba C50-A-1JN laptop
    2. Forgot O/S password
    3. Never made a password recovery disk
    4. Solution - re-install
    5. Problem - W8 never properly shuts down, goes into some sort of hibernation mode, so when I hit F12 at start-up, it doesn't register because it's "awakening" from hibernation and not booting up from a complete shut-down
    6. 2nd solution? Turn off hibernation - in the O/S, which of course I can't access because I've forgotten the password! Circle of doom complete!

So in a software-sense, I've bricked the laptop.

My brother's a former laptop repair technician, but lives in another country. He suggests I remove the CMOS battery to execute a complete power-down. Thus I should be able to access the BIOS.

    I don't suppose there's an easier option? :D

    Thanks Windows 8!

    From our site rules (edited):

Passwords - Please do not ask for assistance with or ways to bypass a forgotten or unknown password that may be required on a computer. As there is no way to verify the actual situation or intent, no assistance will be provided.

    Toshiba Satellite C50-A-1JN (PSCJEE-008007EN)

    Windows 8.1 64-bit comes pre-installed in it.

Apologies, I can see how this looks dodgy. Only cost me £100 so if all else fails I'll bin it.

    No apology needed.

We have no way of confirming the validity or intent of the person trying to access a password-protected computer, so that's why we don't help with it.

A factory restore back to its original new condition or a clean install of Windows 8.1 to get a fresh start with it is probably your best option.
