format option greyed out from disk management

    im trying to format a slave drive from fat32 to ntfs , the option to do so is greyed out in diskmanagement . If i try from my computer it tells me to quit any disk utilitys using the drive . Any suggestions?

    Reboot into safe mode and try it.

    Can you delete the partition?

    Try from the run command- convert [drive:] /fs:ntfs

    No go from safe mode , no luck from the run box and I cant delete the partition either its grayed out, as well as "make partition active .

    Check in services.msc
    Verify that disk management is running on automatic and running as well as some programs like speed disk from Norton aren't running.

    i dont even see disk mgmt listed in services
