I need to format my c drive, how do i get to the c prompt, without using windows?

When I try to do it using windows, it tells me about closing down the volume.

Bottom line is I need to get to "C" promt without using windows.

    hi johnny,welcome to T.S.G.
you cant format c from within windows.........as youve found out:)
win 2k and xp are bootable .....all you need to do is set bios to boot from your cd drive, put your cd in and re-boot.
after the drive loadup you will get to th 1st blue screen, choose "repair"......at the next blue screen choose "re-install".....windows will format the drive and re-install a fresh copy of the operating system.

    good luck;)
