My iMac's hard drive has some issues and I need to reformat. I've copied everything to a backup hard drive. My question is, one i complete the reformat how do I get everything I've backed up back on to the iMac's HD?

How exactly did you backup and what did you backup?
Did you use Time Machine to backup?
Did you just manually copy files from your user account?

I used Time Machine to send back up to a Lacie hard drive.

When you reboot the iMac and start the install, you can reformat the HD.
On first reboot after the install, you will be asked if you want to copy back Applications and user accounts.
It should see your Time Machine backup and take care if it when you select which options you want.
