Good day. Can somebody please give me the exact procedures to format my laptop that has windows XP. I need to install windows 98 because it's an older laptop and it can't handle XP too sufficiently. Please also tell me everthing i need for the installation process. Thank you. (Note: I tried formatting XP by right clicking on the C:/ hard drive icon and then selecting the format option but it wouldn't let me format it) Thanks!!!

You probably should have posted this on the Win 98 forum, however:

You cannot format the drive in use while in windows. IOW, Windows won't delete itself.
Does your laptop have a floppy drive and do you have a full install version of 98 or an upgrade CD?

Here is a good tutorial. If you cannot boot to the CD, use the floppy and a Win 98 boot floppy. IF you don't have one download it here. Whether you boot from floppy or CD, the directions in the tutorial are the same.
