I am currently running Norton Antivirus and Norton Firewall (Norton Internet Security) and I've heard some of you guys mention that Norton is a bit of a resource hog. Just for fun, I want to try to download some free stuff and see if what kind of results I get using it.

What Antivirus and/or Firewall software do you recommend that is available on the net?

As for Firewall, the best free Firewall in my humble opinion is Zone Alarm, which can be located here. I used the free one for a few years before finally upgrading to ZA Pro. And recently upgraded again to ZA Security Suite.

    Yep
AVG from Grisoft ( I bought it after using free one because I liked it so much ) and Sygate firewall I have been using for a while. Both get my vote. Norton stuff is invasive and its auto update proggie prevented me from getting on the web. It took days to find the problem.

Well, I downloaded AVG and ZoneAlarm to try them out.

So nobody likes Norton, eh? What do you think about Utilities? I find the One Button Checkup and WinDoctor to be quite useful.

    What's wrong with avast!?
Sygate is my wall of choice as ZA has been known to cause probs with some IE shells.

I love my Nortons...for everything but the firewall, which is really horrible. I use Sygate for firewall, and love it.

I've never had any problem with ZA and IE. Though on this computer I've just switched off of IE and onto Firefox. But I've heard good things about Sygate as well....I just never bothered trying it because ZA always worked out great for me.

Sorry, I should have been more precise, I meant that it has had problems with IE Shells like Avant/Slimbrowser/MyIE etc. and not for everybody either.

If you are having no issues installing/running Norton AV, it is an excellant and very comprehensive AV program.
