I updated my free ZoneAlarm this morning after being prompted that it was available. When I tried to install it, it gave the following message:

    Error

Could not load the DLL library
    C:\DOCUME~1\Peg]LOCALS~1\Temp\vsutil.dll
    (VSSetProtection). The specified procedure
    could not be found.

I did a search and found it in C:\Windows\system32 folder.

I tried again to install and got a slightly different error msg.

Could not load the DLL library
    C:\DOCUME~1\Peg]LOCALS~1\Temp\vsutil.dll
    (WSEDbgPrint). The specified procedure
    could not be found.

Anyone have any suggestions as to what I should do now?

    Thanks
    Peg

Enable/turn on MS default firewall, (To turn Win XP firewall on/off = start/control panel/double-click on network connections/right click on the icon for the connection you are using/properties/advanced/ check or uncheck box next to "internet connection firewall"),
then uninstall Zone alarm, and then install either:

    http://www.personalfirewall.comodo.com = Freeware

    or http://www.jetico.com/index.htm#/jpfirewall.htm = Freeware

Or the Free Kerio Firewall = It will give you "full version" access for 14 days, then will revert back to free version(which works just fine).=
    http://www.sunbelt-software.com/Kerio.cfm
(I have been using Comodo firewall for weeks, and see no reason to uninstall it, but that's why I gave 3 free choices. As far as I know, the other two are just as good.)

and then turn off the MS default firewall.

    Are you using a router?
Never have 2 or more software firewalls running on the same computer as they will conflict with each other.
The most important thing to keep in mind of course, regardless of which anti-virus, anti-malware, anti-spyware and firewall you use is to keep it UPDATED, just as it is important to make sure you have all windows critical and security updates + http://update.microsoft.com/windowsupdate/v6/default.aspx?ln=en-us

I did this, but when I try to install the new one, I got the same message as the update version.

Thanks for the suggestions for other firewalls. I found Comodo seemed to be highly recommended and have now installed it.
