    Freezes, or seems to freeze?

"Freezing", in my mind at least, could be defined as:

Other than physical attributes (fans spinning, power light on), all apparent computer activity stops.
    - Keyboard stops responding to input. (NumLock does not work)
    - Moving the mouse does not effect the cursor on-screen.
    - If you were playing sound, it stops.
    - Hard drive stops transferring data (Activity light does not blink on/off)
    - etc.

If you have ALL of the above symptoms, you may have a hardware problem. (Iffy power supply, poor CPU cooling, defective RAM, leaking/bulging motherboard capacitors, etc)

If you have only some of the above symptoms, more information will be needed to help you diagnose your problem.

(Does it stop responding at about the same time each day? ...after it's been on a certain amount of time? Does it make any noises? Does it STOP making noises? Does it act up when you run a certain program? ...when you plug in a certain device?)

No different times through out the day. Last two days it even froze while trying to start up.

Its a rather new power supply and motherboard within the last year anyway.

Doesnt make any noises and doesn't seem to be with any particular program. Once its been on for awhile it does seem better. Fan seems to be going around fine.

    Thanks

    That is correct.

To effectively test your memory, you need to have as much of it free as possible - any that is in use (by Windows, DOS, etc) cannot be tested.

By running it's own tiny little kernel, MEMTEST can test all but the tiny amount that it takes up in memory. (100KB?) Compare that to Windows, where 128MB+ (128,000KB+) of memory is in use, unavailable to be accessed by a memory test program.

So, it's a GOOD thing that you must run MEMTEST86 from a floppy. (or CD)

    HELP ! ! !

    I run xp.

My computer freezes up after being on for a very short time, if unattended.

I tried to run Registry Fix. It hangs up when it begins to scan Shared Programs.

The only way that I've found to get back up is to push the power switch to turn the computer off and power up again.

How do I solve this problem??
