Hey, every twenty or so minutes the error message "'file:///C:/WINDOWS/dlm.html" pops up. Then, either Explorer opens up with my homepage, or Explorer opens up with a blank page and an address involving "coolshader.com/downloader." I've downloaded Ad-Aware, HijackThis, and Spybot already.

Any advice you have would be great, because this is extremely annoying. Thank you very much.

Run HJT again and check:

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Dial32] C:\WINDOWS\dl.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Dial33] C:\WINDOWS\dlm.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Upgrade Service] C:\WINDOWS\sxchost.exe

Close all applications and browser windows before you click "fix checked".

Restart in safe mode Click here to see how

Open My Computer. Go to Tools, Folder Options and click on the View tab. Make sure that "Show hidden files and folders" is checked. Also uncheck "Hide protected operating system files". Now click "Apply to all folders"
Click "Apply" then "OK"

delete these files

BTW, you keep cutting off the top of your log so I can't see what version of HJT you are running, what OS and IE versions.

Okay, so I think the other problem has been fixed by doing what you wrote in your previous posts. However, now, everytime I start my computer, my McAfee VirusScan says that the file _update.dat at the file path C:\DOCUME~1\STEVEL~1\LOCALS~1\Temp is infected with the BackDoor-CDR Trojan virus. And it says it must restart the computer to complete the Clean process, but when I go to restart it, right before it turns off an error box comes up saying something about it not being able to access the update folder (or something like that, it's tough to read because it goes so quickly), and then when I restart the comp, the same McAfee message comes up saying that the comp is infected with the same Virus.

I did everything you said in the last post to a tee, the only small complication was that when I clicked on Fix Checked for those four files in HijackThis, it said there was an error with the 016-DPF: {11111111.... file and it could not be deleted. However, when I re-scanned, it was gone.

That's about it. Any help with this new issue would be greatly appreciated, as the computer is moving at a terribly slow rate now.

Thanks

Okay, the exact error it says before the computer shuts down to finish the cleaning process is "Operation failed to initiate because windows station is shutting down."

Any ideas?

Restart in safe mode, use the same instructions I posted before. Go to c:\documents and Settings\Steve Lewis\Local Settings\Temp and delete everything in there. Some things may not delete *.tmp files because they will be in use and should have today's date.

After you reboot, post another entire HJT log.
