To see the current value of your prompt, just type echo $PS1 in the Bash shell. To change it, simply change the value of that variable.

    example: @ the $> prompt type: PS1="Yes, Master? >"

To make the change automatic each time you log in, add that to your ~/.profile and it's done. ;)

But make a note of what the original was as you may wish to change it back at a later date after the novelty wears off.

Ok, thats hilarious I wrote an article on how to do it and now a friend has come over and used my box and we where talking about the shell and he went straight to the Vi editor and starting remapping stuff..

Now evey-time I open a Shell it says:

    SCRIPTY> su -
    Password:
    fagshell>

How the hell do I fix it? :(

    SCRIPTY> alias
    alias coolshell='ksh'
    alias fagshell='bash'
    alias gayit='nc'
    alias l.='ls -d .* --color=auto'
    alias ll='ls -l --color=auto'
    alias ls='ls --color=auto'
    alias porn='nmap'
    alias vi='vim'
    alias which='alias | /usr/bin/which --tty-only --read-alias --show-dot --show-tilde'

Ok, I figured this one out on my own it took me a while: nano .bashrc

    The PS1 should have been "\[email protected]\h\w$"

He used alias to remap commands to the key-board like this:

    alias rape='grep'

    So with a bit of tinkering I managed to fix it so now it says;

[email protected]~$ cat /proc/cpuinfo | rape "model name"
    model name : Intel(R) Celeron(R) M CPU 410 @ 1.46GHz
    [email protected]~$ su -
    Password:
    fag.shell:> evilshell
    #

AH HA! && He bet me I couldnt change it back! I dont need Vi pfft! (cant wait to see his face!)
