I have 1.5 mbps speed dsl internet from qwest which i hardly believe they are giving me because they came and changed my modem from a broken modem and all the sudden my ping shot up 10 points, but anyways they offer 3 mbps and i was curious i get an average of 70-90 ping on servers and i was wondering how significant the ping change would be tnx

The reason your ping probably went up was because when Service Providers replace a modem they replace it with a Used Modem and not a brand new one. My guess that it is an older version or something was probably wrong with that one too.

To answer your question about the different service Im not too sure but I always say the faster the better.

Have you run an Internet speed test?

A couple of popular Internet speed test sites in the US.

    Speakeasy Speed Test

    DSLReports Speed Test

I'd also run a couple of these line quality tests.

Register at DSLReports and run their Line Quality Tests. It's best to run this test with a direct wired connection to eliminate any wireless issues from the results. It's useful many times to run this test several times, and we'd like to see each of the results. Post the results link from the top of the test display page for each test run here.

The link to post is near the top of the page and looks like:

If you wish to post this result to a forum, please copy/paste this URL
http://www.dslreports.com/linequality/nil/2357195 <- sample only, yours will obviously be different!
and your IP will be disguised.

    Copy/paste that link here.

Note: You will have to enable PING (ICMP) request response either in your router (if you have one), or in your computer's firewall for direct modem connections. This is very important to get the most important part of the test to run.
