Hey all,

I have a pentium 4 1.6ghz, 576RAM, Geforce2 MX 200, latest nvidia drivers, directx9c, NO winxp service packs and the pc in question is NOT on the internet. I have recently tried multiple drivers, a reinstall, dealt with heat issues. Looked on multiple forums, done multiple searches and found ZERO fixes.

Any game, UT2k4, Hidden & Dangerous 2, UT2k3, Swat4... anything like that.

They all freeze, UT2k3 freezes after you click for the game to begin, H&D2 freezes randomly, UT2k4 freezes on nvidia logo (start page), Swat4 freezes on menu screen. They all show red or orange lines on the right hand side of the screen.

Sometimes the pc will restart itself and windows will report a critical error. Also Unreal Tournament 2k3, 2k4 start in safe mode.

PLEASE HELP. :(

If you are getting the blue screen of death, which is what you mean by the critical error message I am assuming, then it is a problem with the display. There are basically two possibilities: Either your drivers need to be reinstalled because they are conflicting with your card or the card is DED. The Geforce2 is a pretty low end card. It may be time for you to upgrade. Also, you may just need to clean up your computer. Call your computer company's tech support and they'll tell you how to reformat your harddrive and make it like its fresh out of the box. Computers often need to be reformated even if you uninstall and organize your computer regularly. This is because uninstalling does not completely remove fragmented files or registry entries. Spyware and viruses may also accumulate. All of these things can lead to system crashes, especially when running high cpu and gpu demanding programs...such as let's say, a computer game.

Thanks for the reply. Although you should have read my post closer though ;)

I swapped my Geforce2 around with the Geforce4 in the family machine. The GF4 worked in my machine and the GF2 didn't work in the family machine. It seems to be the drivers more than anything. Best not to go above 66.93 drivers for a GF2. Either way I stuck my old TNT2 in the machine until I find the scratch to buy a newer card.
