I have Windows 98. It is still working well except that suddenly I cannot play the games that were installed with the system (FreeCell, Hearts, Solitaire, Minesweeper). For instance, I click on FreeCell (FreeCell.Ink) and I get a message "An error has ocurred in your program. To keep working, etc." I click "Close" and get a second message -- "This program has performed an illegal operation." I do not have a Windows 98 CD. Are these games gone forever?

You could try a system restore, but if you do I would backup all important files you have. I dont run 98 so I am not sure how well this will work, could be risky but it may solve your prob.

    restart your computer to MS-DOS

    then type on DOS, scanreg/restore

    or scanreg/? for other options

    More info here

    good luck.
