    games not playing
Hello . What I need is a little advice...

I noticed that the computer was running slow so I clicked on my computer and went into performance and saw that only 37% resources were free. I called Dell and they made me go into msconfig and had me UNCHECK many many items so that all the icons that were in the system tray are now gone. No big deaL but we have noticed that some of the games that I downloaded from the web no longer work!. Like a game called Snood. I downloaded it again but to no avail. It says you have to have Direct X version 7 to play the game but upon searching my files I have version 8. Do I download their version and overwrite the newer version with the older one??? Will this screw anything up??? What to do. I can tell you that now when I right click on my computer and look into the performance tab there is now 83% resources FREE. Wow. But what do I do with the games that no longer work. What could be the reason that they no longer work? I even RECHECKED all the boxes that they had me recheck just to see if they would work and they still do not work??? What could have happened. I even did a system restore to the day before the unchecking of the startup items and still they did not work. Once again what do you suggest I do and how do I correct it.? thanks. Once again everything seems OK and even faster but these few games like "HOUSE of THE DEAD" and SNOOD which were downloaded from the web no longer work. Everything else is fine.

The items they had me uncheck were Msft Works items and Dell SC(solution center and Delss Creative mixer and WATCH and Save No w etc etc. The tech was very knowledgeable I thought and asked me to read what was checked and had me uncheck as we went. So that was that. it was not until hours later that I realized that certain games did not work. What could be wrong. I am running Windows ME and the computer is a Dell 8100 series 1.4 GHZ with a 40 Gb hard drive. Thanks

    Hiya

Is this the version that you have of SNOOD:

    http://www.snood.org/

It looks like a Demo, so maybe the timer has run out. Did it have a 30 day expire date?

Do you have anything left in the startup? Lets have a look:

Go to Run and type MSINFO32
On the left choose Software Enviroment, then Startup Programs. Copy/paste the list here.

Also, go here and download AddAware http://tomcoyote.com/lsindex.html

Download and run, ensuring that Deep Registry scan is enabled. Remove all except any references to Web3000 or new.net. If you're unsure, copy/paste the list here.

Also, whilst you're there, download and install RefUpdate to get the latest updates. Just click Connect.

Installing Direct7 over 8 won't do any good. In fact, not sure if it'll let you.

Also, where did you get HOUSE of THE DEAD from?

    Regards

Hi. I am not sure if I am going to do what u suggest but thanks anyway. But I got House of the DEAD which by the way also no longer works since this mishap-- from Kazaa(the better version of Morpheus) search under software and type in House of the Dead. Used to work GREAT.

You say that you got the games from Kazaa. Have you not got the originals?
