I hope someone can help me. I have a Dell Dimension 4500, 1gb ram, 320 g HDD, 2.4ghz, NVidia GeForce 7300 GT. I recently had a trusted local computer shop reformat from XP Pro to Home. After a while, I tried to install Doom 3, Quake 4, My Tribe, Sim City 4, Diablo 2, and numerous other games, and I get the same problem with all of them. The games install no problem, but when I double click the shortcut, nothing happens. I tried autorunning it off the CD, nothing. I've uninstalled and reinstalled hundreds of times, I've updated my Nvidia drivers, Direct X, Motherboard drivers, everything. I've done numerous virus scans with Shaw Secure, Spybot, Adaware, TrendMicro Housecall, nothing comes up. The only exception is My Tribe. If I restart my comp, and double click the shortcut before anything loads, it will run. Then if I quit to the desktop, and try to run it again, nothing happens. I want to play my games and am getting frustrated. The computer shop says they can't find anything wrong. Help!!

i dont know if youve done this yet or not, but maybe take the computer back to the shop with the video games, have them try to run the games on the computer themselves to see what happens, ive never heard of anything like that, and they cant say nothing is wrong because games just dont work like that.

Thanks for the insight guys. I've found the problem. Around the time this all started happening, I had a nasty virus that Shaw Secure didn't find. It turns out that virus screwed up Shaw Secure. If i disable it, my games run perfectly.

I'm not a big fan of Shaw Secure....it messed up my system so badly that I ended up formatting/reinstalling.
I've been using the free edition of AVG Anti-Virus for a while and I'm very happy with it.
