I am looking for a nice gaming laptop within for about $1000. I would prefer 512 video memory (not shared), 3 or 4 gigs of RAM, a 2.2 Ghz duo core processor or faster, and a hard drive running at 7200 rpm. I found this one http://www.gateway.com/systems/product/529668156.php?tab=specs, but I am afraid that there are some little details about buying a gaming laptop that I am missing. Is this a good laptop or should I look elsewhere?

If you want the Gateway laptop, go ahead. But I would recommend also looking at the Dell XPS series. They offer some great budget computers, and very decent power too!

I read some reviews that said the video card on this gateway offered poor performance on any new games. Is this true?

I have no experience with the Radeon HD 2600 or any close to it, but from user reviews and review website it garnered an above-average rating. Butr I would recommend nVidia cards for gaming. Generally, ATI is for rendering, nVidia for fragging.
