Pewter was left in the room with my children and when I returned and turned on my computer it informed me that I needed to select the reboot device " reboot and select proper boot device or insert boot media in selected device and press a key " so I opened the bios menu and I'm not sure what to do with the settings.

First and foremost, read your manual as to bios menus/options. Each bios [and even sometimes each revision] has different options.
Basically you are going to need to see if your hard drive [the one with the operating system] is detected. If it is, put that device in the boot order.
Note if this is a win10 system, you would need to select windows boot loader as the first boot device.
