intermittent dimming could be a hardware issue... a failing/bad screen inverter. providing more info about the make and the specifics of the laptop, this a way to determine factors about the machine such as which type of illumination is used here.
it would say whether the laptop has bulb or LED... which would point to the inverter as being a possibility. the hum can at times be eliminated by adjusting the screen brightness higher.
Thanks for your response, Bob. This is a Gateway NE56R12u laptop. Other specs: Intel® Pentium® B950 2.1GHz 2MB L3 Cache Processor, 4GB DDR3 Dual-Channel 1066MHz Installed Memory, & 500GB 5400RPM SATA Hard Drive. Do these help?
