My husband woke up this morning and said his computer's screensaver was locked up. He tried to get it to move and it wouldn't. He tried ctrl/alt/dlt and that did nothing so he turned it off at the power switch.

When he turned it back on all he gets is beeping. It give 5 beeps at startup then sounds like it's trying to start and then just beeps continuously after that.

    Any ideas???

    Thank you.

bios beeps indicate errors with hardware, 1 beep means everything is ok, to know what any other beeps mean we would need to know what motherboard/bios you computer is running. what is the make/model of your computer, or if it is a custom build, the make/model of the motherboard

Are you sure it is 5 beeps?
It appears that 5 beeps is a process failure.

I would open the case and replug all the plugs and cables one at a time slowly and don't be afraid to use "a can of air" to remove dust (never a vacuum hose) and see if any change. I would bet this is a video card failure if it does not clear up.

sorry about this sweetsherry but it seems we have the same question..

My mates did the same after he pulled the plug out, only his is long beeps without the 5 at the start. his is a msi cuba motherboard which i can't find any info on, but the msi site say's it's a motherboard, video card or ram problem. Tried changing the ram and taking the videocard out, still it beeps.

The motherboard is covered in dust so i'll try the can of air and see if that helps....

any suggestions other than that is well appreciated :)

did nothing, but i did notice that the beeping takes longer to start using the original 1gb (2x512mb) ram, than it did with the 2gb (2x1gb) ram...????

    Cheers

Count the long beeps. They mean something.

the last time i turned it on it was about 10 beeps then i turned it off, there could of been more to go but all the beep code guides i've looked at never had anything above 3-4 long... but if you can tell me what it meens i'll be more than happy to try it again :)
