The GeForce FX will pack a wallop, and its coming out any time now. I haven't much about ATI's response to the FX, but if you have the money now investing in a GeForce wouldn't be a bad idea. However, keep in mind that it isn't radically more advanced or that much faster than an ATI Radeon 9700 Pro. That could mean that ATI's response could be an even faster even more advanced card. Who knows? It's ultimately up to you, I guess. Personally, if I had $400 to spend, I'd just buy a good Radeon 9700 and spend the rest on some other part of my system. It would last you about as long as an FX would, and the ATI's response to the FX probably won't be around for almost a year anyways. Who wants to sit on $400 for a year?

the FX is huge...it takes up 2 slots, creates tons of heat, is incredibly loud, and the Radeon still beats it in certain tests. In my opinion, you should go with a Radeon. There's only going to be about 4,150 FX's shipped initally for the world, and that's for all the card manufacturers (PNY, Asus, MSI, etc.) to share.
