When I press "open file" in the program "Business Intelligence" of an Office
program like Excel, I would like the window columns to be in "detail" view
    instead of "list" view.
    How can I do this?
Is this a registry default that can be changed?
    Thanks,
    Josh

Open Windows Explorer (My Computer), browse to the folder that you want to change, and then select details as the display method.

Now when you fire up most any program, then the Open pane should be in the Detail mode for ONLY that folder.

BUT, if you want ALL folders to be like this, after making the changes above go to "Tool, Options, then the View tab". There you should see a "Apply to all folders", just click it and OK your self out.

    Thanks for your reply.
The procedure that you mentioned is known to me but my specific problem
is with Business Objects/Desktop Inteligence and your suggestion doesn't
    solve the problem.

    Thanks,
    Josh

Then there should be a setting within this "SAP BusinessObjects Desktop Intelligence" that needs to be set.
