I'm back working on this 1999 Dell Latitude CPX H450GT laptop. It's taken me off the Windows NT login page and now shows me a white page that reads: This computer system, #DGUSZ**-D35B, is protected by a password authentication system. You cannot access the data on this computer without the correct password. Please type in the primary or administrator password and press <Enter>. There is nothing (no blanks) showing the password being typed in. It's a "blind" process.

I don't know the password. This current white page won't let me access any other mode - set-up, bios, etc. Earlier, I got the NT login page and could access these options.

How can I get back into the NT login page? Or, how can I just bypass the entire login process and get into the OS?

    Sorry, Mike. From the Rules...

You may be able to check with Dell, since this seems like a password has been set in the BIOS, but I don't know if they'd be able to help with a machine this old. Still, if it's a Hail Mary pass you're looking for...

Thanks. Yeah, I'm aware of those rules. That's why I mentioned it last. I found the machine in the trash and the former owner is deceased (I know this because his name is on the machine so I Googled him and found his obit.)

Is there any other solution to getting back onto the NT login page? He also shows his password but it won't get me in. Can I reinstall NT or install '98 without getting into the login page? If so, how is this done?

I think enough information has already been given
topic closed before it really does contravene the rules

If it has a bios password then reinstalling windows will not bypass or remove that
