Hey guys, anybody know of a good ghosting/imaging software out there? I have used Ghost before but do not have the software right now. Anybody know where I can get a trial version of some sort or if there is another type of software out there that works equally as well for new OS platforms.

    TIA....

True Image offers a free trial. I would use that to full term before buying it and would make really sure that it is actually reliable on your machine. Also, read on the Acronis forum so you are familiar with problems that many others are encountering.

I owned it for a year or two and thought all was well until I badly needed to restore an image. Not one of the five backup images that I had would work so I had to use a six month old Norton Ghost image. Ghost has always worked with never a failure so I returned to it until Acronis will work properly.

My experinece is just the opposite of dmullen. I had nothing but problems with Ghost multi-volume images, whereas Acronis True Image 9.0 build 3677 has worked flawlessly. The only area of deficiancy with Acronis is in burning images to DVD... There they have a definate problem. Acronis backup images on secondary drives, JAZ drives, and external HDD's all work quite well.

With GHOST, I used to backup to a secondary drive or partition and let it chop up the image in the sizes I needed to burn to CD/DVD after the fact. However, I rarely attempt to burn to CD/DVD anyway, I prefer external drives and/or separate physical internal drives for backup.
