Gmail Notifier Snippets

I am using Firefox 3 with the gmail notifier which has been running fine but recently i kept getting little pop up snippets in the lower right of my screen informing me of unread messages that i have already archived. I have uninstalled the gmail notifier but they still appear, they also appear when the browser isnt even open!

Anyone know how to get rid of this?
