I am trying to add an existing gmail account onto a desktop windows 10 computer.
When I enter the gmail account and password i get error code 0080070490.
I know the gmail account is working because I can access it on the google page.
I would prefer it to be in the windows 10 mail app.
Any suggestions??

I would recommend doing a System Restore. There are other options, too, for resolving this issue, too. However, they may be more complicated. This is why doing a System Restore is the best option to choose, first. Please note that all important documents and files of yours should be backed up before attempting to fix this issue you are having when trying to add an existing Gmail account to the Windows 10 Mail app. Here is a link to a web page outlining the resolution options for the error code you indicated.

Do you use 2-step authentication? If so then you may require an app specific password, this is used instead of the account password under the Mail app.

That is good news. It may have been something on Google's side which caused the error. At least you can use your Gmail account on your new computer. Also, sometimes, Windows updates or app updates can cause similar types of issues.
