I am running WINDOWS XP on a DELL computer. My sound died.
I checked all the connections. OK
I checked all the software. Computer says they are working OK.
I checked the batteries in my mouse and keyboard. OK.
BUT I noticed the mulitmedia functions on my keyboard are dead.

In desperation, I tried GO BACK to return to when sound worked.
The sound was back on, BUT FADED OUT OVER THE NEXT TWENTY MINUTES?

I am new to XP. I think I would rather go back to 98SE. To be honest, I would rather go back to DOS which was transparent. In other words, I am way over my head.

    Any ideas? Please?

can you still play music without the multimedia functions, or is sound dead all over the place. do you have another keyboard, try changing it and seeing if the keyboard is just randomly sending volume down.

    I lost ALL my sound.
Found a reply under another post suggesting I go into Device Manager and refresh sound drivers. Makes sense. I will try that next.

I still have the keyboard from my old computer, but it is a plut in. Present keyboard, which types as you can see, is wireless.

    Appreciate any other ideas.

I am truly lost in WINDOWS XP. It seems to shuffle my files without warning.

I CAN'T FIND MY DEVICE MANAGER! Tried "Search" and found nothing for Device Manager or Sound Driver.

How do you refresh sound drivers in XP?

    HELP!

G'day leptonpart, try help, and the term classic view, and also disable personalised views you can set the thing up as though it were 98.
You can also set the device manager similarly.
    Cheers, qldit.
