I have used IE since getting my first PC at the age of 60. I am now 77 and have switched to Chrome.

Lately I have been having more and more problems accessing links I have used for years with IE. More and more freezes and "page not responding". Have been switching some to Chrome and today decided to make my default browser Chrome. So far so good. Had to login to all my favorite sites but no biggy.

Time will tell. Does seem somewhat faster loading sites.

Well, Edge is replacing IE, and is the default on all fresh installs of Windows 10. BUT, IE 11, is still provided and is not being updated.

Now that you have Chrome on your system how is the overall performance of the machine, out side of Chrome?

Everything seems to be operating great. Will see in a couple of days if this holds true.

One of the first things I do after a clean install of Windows 10 is to make Internet Explorer 11 my default browser.
It works fine and stays up-to-date.

I personally don't like Microsoft Edge or Google Chrome.

I prefer IE11 but there are just too many sites that will not work in it now. As time progresses, more & more sites are totally dropping support for IE11 ( or any other flavour of IE) and only allowing Edge, Chrome & latest FF to connect.

These sites want to use cutting edge HTML5 features that IE does not & will never support. They won't even fall back to basic functions, they just won't work in IE full stop.

I have Mozilla Firefox Quantum as a secondary browser, just in case I have an issue with a website.

I too, do prefer IE over Edge, but as stated to many sites are using the new features.

There are some programs that use a "Built in" version of IE and some sites one does not get the full listings of the search that the sites provide.

Things that are needed in Edge:
Status bar
Pinned Favorites but be able to drag width
Favorites bar each icon needs to be selected and set to icon only or full
The Menu bar needs to be there

I've decided it's time to change my default browser from IE11 to Chrome. I have Chrome installed but how do I make it my default browser? I don't want to change my email system, which is currently Windows Live Mail.

Harry you are lucky as all your desktop shortcuts should open with Chrome where if you do this on Android you have to change each one.
