I've read several threads about the google redirect/jump problem, and tried to fix it using some of the suggestions (mainly the ones on the following thread: http://forums.techguy.org/security/577969-redirect-jump-search.html). The problem seems to have been corrected, but wanted to get some advice on a few things.
I never downloaded Hijackthis but went straight to the part where it was suggested to download FixWareout and run it. It seems that most of the forums ended up having to go this step to fix the problem, so I just started there. I ran FixWareout and have attached the report I got after running the program. Here are my questions:
1. How did this happen in the first place? I have and use a firewall (ZoneAlarm) and run spyware and antiviral programs on a regular basis.
2. How can I prevent something like this from happening again?
3. Should I have run Hijackthis or any other programs, or was it OK to go straight to running FixWareout?
Thanks in advance,
Michael
